Finding ideas for a special Mother's day can be difficult but taking the extra time to individualize the day for mom is worth it!

Every woman, therefore every mom, is an individual with likes and dislikes unique to her. The suggestions given here are not a “one size fits all” solution. Every family needs to take the time to understand the needs and desires of the mom in their home. The following Mother’s day gift ideas are to help encourage each family to discover how to best plan a day suited to their special mother.

1. Have her car detailed by a professional. A lot of mom’s spend countless hours in their vehicle running errands and driving carpools. Show her how much you love her by having someone who knows what he is doing get rid of the mess that has undoubtedly accumulated.

2. Surprise her with a year’s worth of weekly or biweekly maid service. Help free up some of her time to do something she enjoys by removing the burden of weekly household chores.

3. Donate money to her favorite charity in her name. In doing so you reinforce that, you care about issues that are important to her.

4. Each member of the family commits to taking over one of Mom’s responsibilities for a year. Think about all mom does for her children and stepchildren every day. Are there some chores that others in the home can take on? Lighten her load; you will be glad you did because it gives her more time to enjoy her family!

5. Buy her the latest book by her favorite author. Inside the book jacket place a coupon for her favorite day spa, or even better a weekend getaway, so she will have an opportunity to read it.

6 Do all of the leg work for a night out. Make arrangements for a babysitter she trusts to watch the kids and spend an evening out at one of her favorite places.

7. Buy her a gift certificate for her favorite hairdresser and give it to her along with a note giving her permission to cut her hair as short as she wants.

It might take some extra effort to plan a day that includes something Mom will really enjoy but it will be worth it! By doing something beyond the ordinary flowers, candy and breakfast in bed you show Mom how important she is. You are telling her that what she likes and what she needs matters to you. One wonderful thing about Moms, when you do something especially nice for them that makes them feel loved and appreciated the kind gesture comes back to the family tenfold.
